Costa 're-debut' a family affair
Jaume Costa's 're-debut' for Valencia CF wasn't a solo affair for the fullback. He was accompanied at Mestalla not just by his teammates, but by friends and family who turned out to watch him from the stands.
Amongst them was his father, Jaume Costa Sr., and VCF Media followed the elder Costa during the game. He described his feelings after a positive first appearance for his son, who played the majority of the match against Real Sociedad.
"Watching your son play for your lifelong club makes you very happy," he said. "I was really excited about it after so many years. I was very nervous and wanted everything to go well, but Jaume is a very level-headed and professional kid. He has a lot of character, a lot of determination and a will to win."
"It's really emotional. He looked good out there. He was fighting, shouting, going down the wing, tracking back... it's his first game, and he worked really well."
The player himself wa pleased with his showing, and with the reaction from the fans at Mestalla.
"Getting applauded when you are subbed off is an honour. I always try to give 100% and work as hard as possible."
Jaume Costa Sr. is likely to be a regular in the stands this season.
